Regine's Book: A Teen Girl's Last Words

Regine's Book: A Teen Girl's Last Words - Regine Stokke, Henriette Larsen "Really beautiful" basically sums up this book

Flowers in the Attic

Flowers in the Attic - V.C. Andrews Review to come

Chopsticks

Chopsticks - Jessica Anthony, Rodrigo Corral 3.5

A good mystery but I couldn't engage into the story until I saw something that contributes to the end.

I Don't Want To Be Crazy

I Don't Want To Be Crazy - Samantha Schutz 4.5

Hungry

Hungry - H.A. Swain Hungry takes place in a world where food does not exist. People take this sort of 'medication' every 3 or so months to ease their hunger. This medication also supposedly helped end world hunger. But our main character Thalia, stomach starts to growl. Also, Thalia meets a boy named Basil who is part of an underground revolution to bring back food, even though it's known that food doesn't exist any more. Together they set off to an adventure to find that will really ease their hunger, food.

Now does this book sound ridiculous? It was ridiculous. But at the same time, it was actually not bad.

Yes, it's one of those books where after you finish it you'll say "What the hell did I just read."
But it's a fun entertaining read. It's also kind of frightening when you think about it since the world is advancing constantly. We might end up in Thalia's world one day.

One thing I really liked about this book was the world. Even though food is the main concept, everything else is advanced. There are documentaries about iphones...iphones. There are tree holograms and gizmos (basically a device that does everything...and I mean everything). It's like Jimmy Neutrons experiments has taken over this society.

Thalia as a character was.. err... kind of was just there. She wasn't annoying or boring as much that I thought she would have been, but I cant really explain it. I also didn't like Basil that much. I found him as a coward and I wanted to punch him in the face about 20 times.

Thalia and Basil's relationship I guess could sort have been insta-love, but Swain does a good job in explaining why it was insta-love which I appreciated. (Thalia could have done much better)

The ending was also rushed and not much well explained. It did end on a cliffhanger. And the epilogue left me with more questions.

All together, this was a pretty fun book. It's definitely an unique dystopian/science fiction novel and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Anya's Ghost

RTC!

Angelfire

Angelfire - Courtney Allison Moulton

3.5

What I liked:

1.There were a lot of well-described action-pack scenes. I mean a lot!
2.The story kind of has a Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibe which I really liked.
3.The history about Preliator was pretty interesting and I hope to learn more in the next book
4.The romance wasn't too cringed worthy
5.The family issues were legit and realistic. I actually really connected with Ellie because of those issues.
6. I couldn't help but smile at the ending. Some may think it's cliche but I'm a cliche type of person so I don't mind.

What I disliked:

1.I couldn't get into the writing style. I thought it was choppy and boring. It kind of reminded me of my writing.
2.I wasn't the biggest fan of Will. He was just too er...dull for my taste. But I do appreciate how protective he is... i'll give him that.
3.I couldn't connect with side characters that much (Katie, Nathaniel, ect.)I didn't really care for them whereas Ellie cares deeply for them.
4.I couldn't imagine the creatures some reason so it was frustrating reading those scenes sometimes.

Angelfire wasn't a bad book but it didn't blow my mind. But I heard that the second book is waaaayyy better so I will be reading the next book soooooooon!!!

Saga, Volume 1

Saga, Volume 1 - Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples DAYUUM

What I liked:

1. I loved the plot of Saga. Even though it's not the most original one (two groups hate each other but person from group A falls in love with person from group B), but there was a twist about it in which I could appreciate.
2. I looooveeed the artwork. I think good artwork it's the most important aspect for a graphic novel and this did not disappoint.
3. Saga is hilarious. There are so many funny quotes I just can't.
4. Even though it can be comical, it does have some emotional stuff which stood out to me.
5. I like there are a variety of different uhh... creatures and some of them even creep me out (in a good way!)

What I disliked
..............nothing

I let two friends borrow this in the past week or so and they all also loved it. Now I need my hands on the second one ASAP.

Clockwork Princess

Clockwork Princess - Cassandra Clare yes

Suicide Notes

Suicide Notes - Michael Thomas Ford 4.5 Stars

Wasn't what I was expecting but it was still a great witty and heartwarming novel. A must read for everyone!

Tempestuous: A Modern-Day Spin on Shakespeare's The Tempest

Tempestuous: A Modern-Day Spin on Shakespeare's The Tempest - Kim Askew, Amy Helmes Tempestuous is about a girl named Miranda who works at mall food court selling hot dogs. She is in this position due to her being caught in a SAT school scam and has to pay all the damage she has done. One day she, her coworkers, other mall employees, and some mall customers get snowed in and is trapped in the mall overnight. And that is when chaos begins.

I really REALLY love this book. I thought the main character was witty, spontaneous and rebellious. It's kind of funny that a lot of characters in the book misjudged Miranda thinking that she was selfish due to all the things she has done. But in reality she was just trying to follow her heart and I find her very relatable.

I also adored the romance between Miranda and Caleb in the book. The book is only about 220 pages so I was impressed on how well the relationship was so well developed.

The side characters Arial, Chad, Grady, etc. were also very well developed and each character was great in their own way.

I really love the events that happened, the characters and the setting. Everything was just perfect and well written. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the books that these authors has to offer.

Hidden Destiny

Hidden Destiny - W.A. Case Hidden Destiny is about a a girl named Angel-May who has spent her life locked in a room and is beaten by her father daily because he blames her for the death of her mother. Despite her misery life, she still has a little bit of hope when she has these dreams. In addition, she discovers she has powers that could help her escape. Then one day her dream, slowly, becomes a reality.

I quite enjoyed this book. It has lots and lots of intense romance but yet still has that face-paced action element to it. I liked learning more of history of the world that the author created and definitely did a great job explaining everything.

I also loved the main character Angel. She was pretty smart even though she hasn't spent a lot of time outside her room and into the real world. I also laughed at Angels lack of knowledge of the human objects like her description of a TV. Angel was also strong and fierce in the enemies she had to face throughout the book.

I also liked the relationship between Angel and Zared. The author did a good job on why they are so attracted to each other and it makes me want to see more of them together.

Overall I really thought this book was great. And I'm glad the author gave me an opportunity to read her book.

I hope W.A. Case makes a sequel because I really want to see what happens next!!
